Description

RIX Storm S3

The RIX Storm S3 is a weapon-mounted thermal that allows the user to get into dedicated weapon-mounted thermal without spending more than 2 grand.

A thermal scope to start the addiction.

First things first, we are in no way promoting addiction… but thermals tend to have that effect on people. The S3 features a 384×288 resolution sensor with a 50Hz frame rate. Now, 384×288 doesn’t sound like a functional resolution.. but for most it is. Compared to 5 years ago, 384 core sensors have made vast improvements.

Another perk of this unit is that is comes in under 1lb and is IP67 waterproof so you can stay light and not have to worry about the weather. Along with a quality build, you can also record videos and photos internally to capture and share your favorite shots.

Zoom into the action

One thing we can’t forget, is the optical specifications. When it comes to the optical zoom.. there is a base magnification of 3.5x. This gives the user 7.5° @100yd with a 1,968yd detection range. While there may be no true zoom capabilities, it does feature a 1-4x digital zoom to punch in further when needed.

One of our favorite features though is the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) where you can adjust the magnification level of the PiP image independently from the main image. This allows you to get a broad view and scan while having a closer (smaller) image to improve shooting accuracy.

FAQ’S:

1.) What Is The Battery Life Of The Storm S3

The Storm S3 will offer up to 6 hours of battery life on a single 18650. Due to the size of the 18650 battery, you can bring multiple extras and last for a long time in the wilderness.

2.) What does the Storm S3 include?

The S3 includes a QD base for Picatinny mounting, battery, instruction manual and various cables for charging. Please note: This unit is packaged by RIX Optics. Packaging and included contents MAY vary over time.

3.) Is The S3 Able To Be Helmet Mounted Or Used As A Handheld?

Negative on the helmet mounting. Technically it “could” be used as a handheld, but this is a dedicated weapon mounted thermal. If helmet or handheld thermal is desired, check out the other options on our website.

4.) Does The RH50 Feature Internal Recording?

Yes, the Storm S3 can record videos or photos internally. The files can be easily transferred by plugging the unit into your computer.

5.) What Is The Best Base Magnification Of A Thermal Scope?

We tend to prefer lower magnifications for our terrain. That being said, anything 1-4X base magnification will suffice for most folks. Any higher and it gets harder to scan larger areas. If you already have helmet mounted thermal, this is a non-issue as you will scan with that. Remember: the base magnification will be the clearest magnification. Everything higher is digital. We like using the base magnification and PIP mode when shooting prey.
