What is a Dove Tail Mount?

The Photonis Defense Breakaway mount is a mounting solution for your BNVD’s, Panobridge, or Mod Armory Bridge that enables you a secure attachment to a bump or ballistic helmet. Helmet mounting your night vision is superior in most cases as it offers the most flexibility of use (navigation, scanning, shooting both passive and IR) over simply holding a unit in your hand. Dovetail attachments are common on binocular night vision devices. Some of these units include: PVS-7B/D, PVS-14, PVS-7A/7C, PVS-15, PVS-18, PVS-21, & PVS-31. If you want to run a panobridge and two PVS14’s, or two MH25’s, or an MH25 & one PVS14, this dovetail mount will allow attachment to your helmet with the panobridge or Mod Armory Bridge (also available on our site).

What makes this mount so great?

The Photonis breakaway mount is very similar to the Wilcox G24 mount. Users of G24 mounts will feel at home with this mount. With that being said, the functions and adjustment knobs are in slightly different positions on the Photonis mount. Users will press a button to flip units down into action. Adjustments for tilt and fore and aft adjustments are very simple and intuitive to use.

FAQ’s:

1.) Wilcox G24, Norotos Lo Sto, or Photonis Mount? 

At the end of the day we have personally run all of these options and have been happy with all of them. The G24 and the Photonis breakaway mount are the most similar. The Photonis mount is nearly identical to the G24 and the only major differences are the adjustments (opposite sides) and the magnetic arm. The magnetic arm on the photonis mount is designed to power on the PD-PRO-16B binos. It will serve no function for other night vision devices. It is still a solid option in the event that we cannot source G24 or low sto mounts.

The G24 is regarded as one of the industry standards. It has a proven track record of excellence and quality.

The Lo Sto mount is extremely compact. For users who need compact size over everything else, the Lo Sto may make more sense. Ultimately the downside to the Lo Sto is adjustability. For the vast majority of units this will not be an issue. Some users have issues with the Lo Sto when running with units like the PD PRO’s because the lo sto does not have quite the adjustment away from a users face when compared to the Photonis mount or the G24.

The G24 has slightly more perceived “tilt” adjustment so that is something to consider.

All mounts will effectively interface with units with military spec dovetails.

2.) Will this mount work for PVS14’s? 

This mount is a dovetail setup designed to be run with binocular nightvision devices. Please contact us if you need a mount for your PVS14.

3.) Are these units in stock? 

We do stock these units, but we also take backorders. This is because of our good relationship with Photonis. Typically we can get mounts in a matter of days. If you have questions about lead times, please contact us at the “contact us” page. Lead times will vary and in the event that there is a large lead time we will contact you directly to notify you.

4.) Is the auto power on function important?

That will largely depend on the end users goals and objectives. The Photonis mount DOES allow auto power on function for the PD PRO unit. This is nice if you desire a fail safe/guaranteed powering on of your unit anytime a battery is installed. The downside is if users happen to flip the unit down in the daylight, the unit will auto power on, even if the power switch is turned off. Users must be aware of this function and use common sense or risk damaging tubes if this occurs during daylight hours.

    Great mount! Very similar to the Wilcox mount for a little cheaper.
    Magnetic bar is removable, don’t let the bar l deter you from looking at this mount! A huge step up from my old rhino dovetail mount.
