The Surefire M640V white light/IR light has founds itself home on any of our rifles that we use often under the cover of darkness. It is a staple for us among our equipment.

What makes the M640V such a versatile weapon light?

While at first look many people might discount the performance of the 640v due to its low lumen output, we are here to tell you that it throw ample light downrange. In many ways, we actually prefer the white light beam pattern and throw of the 640 Vampire versus the 640DF. When comparing the 640DF and 640V, users will find that they both have a very similar candela rating. This is why the 640V has such great beam distance. Infrared performance is equally impressive. Even in moonlit conditions the IR beam can be seen easily over 100 yards downrange. The potency of this package and small form factor make this white/IR light a great option for many individuals.

The M640V is a solution for anyone who desires to have white light and infrared illumination in one solution.

From first glance, many folks will see the lower lumen output of this amazing weapon light and write it off. We will happily report that this light packs performance and versatility into one flashlight. We run these on several rifle platforms and won’t hesitate to consider this a weapon light capable of being a primary lighting solution.

Where does the Surefire M640V Shine:

The M640V, although lower in white light lumens, puts out a deceptively high amount of light. What we mean is that although the lumens are low, the beam pattern and spread pushes the light out far. Compared to the M640DF, it features a tighter beam pattern which results in high performance downrange. Give the head of the light a turn and IR mode can easily be activated for night vision use.

Adaptability and expandability is key.

Aftermarket support and internal support are key attributes for surefire. A host of different switches and tail caps are available for the 640V. The one downside is the light comes only with a push button tail cap. This simply means end users who desire a pressure pad activation will need to purchase a tail cap and pressure pad separately. If you are on the hunt for a potent infrared light that can also be used as a primary white light, the M640V might be a great fit for you.

FAQ’s:

1.) How does the Surefire M640V stack up against other light brands and models. 

One thing to keep in mind: This white/IR light is a COMPROMISE of function. The luxury of having white AND IR usually comes at a cost of performance in one or both of those categories. We are happy to report back that, although it might not be the brightest or most potent white light, it still features amazing throw and a great beam pattern. This white light will surprise you in terms of throw and brightness. It holds its own against the 640DF. If you are searching for a dedicated high output white light, this won’t be it. If you desire IR and white light function, and want an IR illuminator that is even worth a darn, this light will check your boxes.

2.) Who should consider the M640V weapon light? 

This light really shines for folks who are just getting into night vision and need an illumination source for running at night under nods. If having a laser/illuminator is out of the question, the 640V will get you shooting passively for a relatively low price, especially compared to dedicated laser aiming devices. In some states it is also illegal to hunt predators with “lasers”. Having a dedicated IR illuminator eliminates the laser from the question and keeps you on the right side of the law. Passive aiming is also very effective. This IR light is also potent enough for clip on units like the PVS30 or UNS SR.

3.) What is included with the M640V?  

Inside the retail packaging is the light body, Picatinny adapter, MLOK adapter, (2) CR123A batteries, and Allen wrench tool for mounting and adjustment.

4.) What is the battery life like on the 640V? 

The 640V has an advertised 2.5 hour run time in white light and 16.75 hours in IR. We can attest: expect a full night of run time under nods. This is a great run time, especially considering the output in IR mode.

5.) What about a warranty?

6.) Are these stocked or drop shipped? 

We stock what is shown on our site here in our warehouse. These are NOT drop shipped. We hold the inventory, we ship at time of order.

7.) Are Surefire lights still worth it in the world of other great companies? 

We think so. Are they for everyone? Probably not. The surefire reputation of quality and performance should be noted. For many people, they buy a surefire for the durability and reliability. For others, it’s in the name. We run many different lighting solutions on our rifles. We are very happy with the M640V and its performance especially in IR mode. No sacrifices are made and this is a very well rounded light in all modes.
